Sort by the route out of your North Glasgow home
Before sealing cartons, walk from each room to the proposed loading point. For a flat reached through a shared close, note each stair turn, entrance door and outside step. For a house, check whether garden or garage belongings have a separate exit. Describe the route that your own property has; a North Glasgow postcode alone does not establish its handling requirements.
Keep dense contents manageable on stairs
Books, records and tools can make a large box difficult to control even when it is only partly full. Divide these into smaller sound cartons, fill gaps to prevent movement and close the base securely. Mark unusually heavy contents. Avoid treating a published weight limit as a safe lifting allowance for every person or staircase. Tell the removal company if an item needs more than ordinary manual handling.
Make dismantled furniture identifiable
Photograph each fitting before taking it apart and put its bolts in a labelled bag associated with that piece. Number matching panels, protect exposed corners and record the largest remaining dimensions. Agree who will dismantle and reassemble furniture before the day; wrapping an oversized wardrobe does not make it pass a tight landing.
Leave a clear collection route
Keep packed boxes inside your own rooms until the crew is ready to collect them. Shared corridors, fire exits and stair landings must remain usable. Set aside keys, medicines and cleaning equipment so they are not sealed into the load. If the van must stand farther away, mention the outside carry and keep moisture-sensitive cartons protected while waiting.
